HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The former Cumberland Valley superintendent was fired from his latest post as acting education secretary.
The Corbett administration has not said why they asked for Dr. William Harner's resignation. However, sources say the administration learned about a personnel issue that surfaced from Harner's time at CV.
An official at the Capitol who wished to remain anonymous said it involved multiple and inappropriate comments by Harner.
In a statement Monday night, Harner said "it remains my understanding...that any complaints made during my tenure as superintendent were fully investigated and no matter was ever determined to be of merit."
"In fact, the Cumberland Valley School Board awarded me the maximum possible bonus available for the 2012-2013 school year as further affirmation of our team's success and lack of substance of any complaints made during my tenure," Harner continued.
Executive Deputy Secretary of Education Dr. Carolyn Dumaresq is now acting secretary. She's a former superintendent in the Central Dauphin and Steelton-Highspire school districts. She was also executive director of the state's teachers union.
