Residents Seek Signatures for Rogers Co. Investigation

Posted: Updated:

A judge in Grady County, 180 miles away, gave six Rogers County residents the go ahead to start a petition. They need signatures to seat a grand jury to investigate Rogers County officials. The petition was filed on Monday and the judge in Grady County had until today to make a decision.

With the decision from Grady County District Judge Richard Van Dyck, one of the petitioners said it's a tremendous day for Rogers County.

"We need to bring back accountability in government and we need to be open and honest," Myron Grubowski said.

There are over 5,100 registered voters in Rogers County and there has to be at least 4,487 signatures within 45 days.

"They could give us a hundred days, it still wouldn't feel like it be enough time, but when you are put underneath the pressure you have to do what you have to do to accomplish the task," Grubowski said.

Once they get those signatures the Rogers County Election Board will have seven days to verify all the names and make sure they are registered voters for the county.

Dermody said this is the first time she has been through a petition like this and is making sure she knows everything that is expected of her office.

"I am here to serve and we are going to do whatever we need to do in order to get the job done," Rogers County Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody.

As for the petitioners, they are certain they can accomplish this goal

"This will once and for all settle all the questions about the county and the way we conduct business in this county," Grubowski said.

There will be a public meeting on Saturday, August 31st at 10 a.m. at the Lynn Riggs Gazebo Park in Claremore.
