NCPD: Man charged after deadly shooting on Rivers Avenue

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man was charged with murder after he shot and killed another man in the parking lot of North Park Grill on Sunday, said officials with the North Charleston Police Department.

Officers said they arrived at the business in Otranto Plaza on Rivers Avenue at about 1:20 Sunday morning. That's where investigators found Michael Knight, 24, of Goose Creek, in the parking lot with gunshot wounds.

Knight was rushed to Trident Medical Center where he later died, officials said.

Detectives said they were able to identify a possible suspect and began searching for him in the area of Crossroads Drive near Greenridge Road in North Charleston. While looking for him, someone gave police a tip about a man hiding in the bushes, officers said.

"I was looking out my back porch and I seen this guy just running through the bushes.  And that was it," said Michael Anderson, a neighbor who lives on Crossroads Drive.

Chad Thomas Cochran, 26, was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime officials said.

Police believe the victim and the suspect were involved in an argument at North Park Grill before the shooting.

The North Charleston Police Department is still investigating.
