11-year-old SC boy surfing after shark attack

Posted: Updated:

GARDEN CITY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - An 11-year-old Garden City Beach boy who had a shark encounter last month is surfing again.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that Christie Royston said her son asked to go surfing the day after the shark encounter during a surfing competition in Folly Beach.

Tyson Royston was not hurt in the attack.

Officials think an 8-foot bull shark might have become entangled in the leash on the surfboard.

Tyson fell off the board and onto the shark but was able to unhook the leash to the board and escape.

Tyson says he saw another shark this week while surfing at Garden City Beach and hurried out of the water.

He plans to take part in the Eternal Wave Surf Off at Surfside Beach this weekend.
