The Huddle's picks of the week

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Football season is finally here and this year ABC News 4 and the Post and Courier are teaming up to deliver the most high school football coverage in the Lowcountry.

Every Thursday, Sports 4's John Nugent and the Post and Courier's Phil Bowman break down the biggest games each week of the season. Last week, Nugent ended with a 4-2 record and Bowman pulled off a 5-1 tally.

Here's a rundown of the big games this week:

Summerville and Berkeley:

"This is pretty much a must-win for Berkeley but I have to go with Summerville," Bowman said.

Nugent agreed, saying Summerville would win, but he sees Berkeley turning their season around after two tough weeks to start the season.

CONSENSUS: Summerville

Hanahan and Bishop England:

Bowman says Bishop England has an all-uphill battle this week because Hanahan has outstanding players taking snaps, catching long throws and taking the handoff for big on-the-ground gains.

Nugent agrees, saying the Battlin' Bishops just don't have the offense necessary to hang with Hanahan through four quarters.

CONSENSUS: Hanahan

Wando and Ashley Ridge:

Both Bowman and Nugent picked wrong in Wando's game last week, but the Warriors are at home with week against Ashley Ridge. Bowman sees Wando getting it's offense firing and defense standing tall after stumbling last week.

Nugent says Wando's home field advantage will make all the difference.

CONSENSUS: Wando

West Ashley and James Island -- Friday Football Frenzy Game of the Week:

Bowman says West Ashley's new quarterback is making all the difference for this team and he sees them running over the team from James Island.

Manigault rushed for over 135 yards last week, making Nugent's pick easy, West Ashley wins.

CONSENSUS: West Ashley

Fort Dorchester and Cane Bay:

"Fort D is going to have a good team next year, but they're pretty good this year, too," Bowman said, adding that a big offensive showing last week will repeat and they'll roll.

Nugent agreed, projecting Fort Dorchester to pick up another win.

CONSENSUS: Fort Dorchester
