8 arrested in marijuana operation in SC

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson says eight people have been charged with trafficking marijuana after an eight-month investigation that led to the seizure of more than 700 plants from indoor growing operations in the Midlands.

Wilson announced the arrests Friday, following a joint investigation by local, state and federal law enforcement. He says the high-grade plants found in Lexington, Richland and Orangeburg counties are valued at more than $3.5 million.

The suspects arrested Wednesday are from Gaston, Orangeburg, North and Swansea.

Wilson says the investigation started in January.

He says more arrests are expected.
