SCHP: One dead in three-car collision

Posted: Updated:

DORCHESTER, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person is dead after a three-car collision on US 17A in Dorchester County on Saturday, said troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 50-year-old Dwayne Addison of Forest Park, Ga.

Troopers said two cars were traveling north on US 17A near Clubhouse Road and Pinehall Complex when Addison tried to make an illegal U-turn in the middle of the road.

Because of the illegal U-turn, a second car ran into Addison's vehicle, which pushed the car into oncoming traffic in the opposite direction where a third car was hit. Addison died as a result of the collisions.

The driver of the second car was not injured. The driver of the third vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital, troopers said.

Addison was wearing a seatbelt but was trapped in the car and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Troopers said the deceased was at fault in the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
