GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) — After 13 years of military service, SSgt. Robert Wright wiped away tears of joy as he and his family were given a much needed financial break.

"It hit me all at once, I didn't even know how to hold it in. Just amazing," said Wright.

The Air Force veteran who toured Iraq and Afghanistan says he was told the family would be going on an interview to hopefully get a house for free, but that was not the case.

"We followed him. Then he says I lied about the interview you guys are it. It was so, just amazing," said Wright's wife Bethany.

Wright retired from the Air Force after a brain cyst ended his active duty career in May 2012. Wright and his youngest daughter are both battling hydrocephalus, also known as water on the brain.

"It was like lightning struck and in 2012 we found out that he had found a mass in his brain that was causing hydrocephalus. So, it was like all over again for us," said Bethany Wright.

Wright's wife says this mortgage free house will provide a freedom they've never known.

"If something were to happen, the kids and I would be taken care of," said Bethany Wright.

Construction on the house will begin immediately. The family is expected to be in their new home by mid-December.
