High-Speed Pursuit Leaves Two Sapulpa Police Cars Damaged

Posted: Updated:

Sapulpa police say a suspect rammed a vehicle into two police cars, trying to get away, during a chase. It started around 12:45 Thursday morning, when the suspect refused to pull over for a traffic stop.

It took a Taser to finally get the suspect into a patrol car once the chase was over.  Sapulpa police there was an issue when the Chevrolet Tahoe didn't yield properly. A routine stop turned into a pursuit. Police chased the truck through a couple of residential neighborhoods, going up to 40 or 50 miles per hour.

Police say the driver picked up speeds once they pulled into highway traffic in Creek County. At one point officers used stop sticks to slow the truck down. But it wasn't over until the suspect hit one dead end road, and then allegedly rammed a police car, to escape. From there, the truck went down a dirt road, with officers chasing. Another dead end, police say the driver rammed another cop car, but that's when the suspect vehicle stopped.  An officer then approached the driver and used a Taser to place him under arrest.

"We are probably looking at assault with a deadly weapon and numerous traffic charges and are still trying to confirm whether vehicle may be stolen out of Tulsa or not, don't know yet," said Lt. Fred Clark, Sapulpa Police Department.

State troopers as well as Creek county deputies helped with the chase.
