Police: Special-needs man intimidated into using EBT card

Posted: Updated:

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police and Department of Social Services agents were notified Wednesday of an intimidation case involving a vulnerable adult.

According to a Walterboro police report, the 25-year-old special-needs victim told his adult services worker that a 31-year-old man has been coming to his Howell Street apartment and scaring him into paying for food and gas with his EBT card.

The victim said the man uses his apartment "for his own use" and eats whatever food he finds there. The victim said the offender warned him not to tell anyone about the intimidation and got "verbally upset" when he found out the adult services worker had been informed of the abuse.

Police reported the case to DSS.
