Posted: Updated:

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three Kershaw Correctional Institution dorms have been placed on lockdown after health officials found 36 cases of influenza.

According to a release from the Department of Health and Environmental Control, Oak, Sycamore, and Magnolia dorms have been placed on lockdown to limit exposure to the virus.

Visitation for the weekend has also been canceled, officials said.

Medical officials found 15 cases of inmates with flu-like symptoms on Tuesday and called in DHEC. DHEC officials continued testing on Wednesday and found 21 more cases among inmates and employees at the prison, according to the health agency.

Testing will continue, officials said.
