Aviation Authority launches renovation timeline website

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston County Aviation Authority launched a new website this week that lets visitors track the progress of construction projects happening at the airport.

The Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program website, www.chs-trip.com, is also accessible from the airport's main website and a QR code. As construction progresses, the website will provide blog updates and photos and videos of construction.

"We're excited to provide the community, our passengers, airport employees and our tenants with a way to follow the construction progress through engaging and informative visual content and through stories about the work and the people behind the work," said Hernan Pena, Jr., the chairman of the TRIP committee.

A construction alerts page provides information on current closings, relocations and security checkpoint changes that could hinder travelers' access to the airport if they are uninformed.

"Things could get a little loud and a little messy, but the temporary inconvenience will lead to long-term improvement of the customer experience at Charleston International Airport," said Paul Campbell, the director of airports.

Earlier this year, crews began work on a new rental car pavilion and a tarmac expansion.

Over the next two years, the airport will undergo a major reconstruction to the ticketing lobby, TSA screening areas, baggage claims, the central hallway as well as the two concourses.

There are also plans to make the airport more energy efficient.
