COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Colleton County deputies over the weekend arrested a man wanted in connection to a 2011 attempted murder case.

According to the sheriff's office, Marvis Jermain Williams was charged with attempted murder in the case of Randall Herndon . The shooting happened during the early morning hours of July 16, 2011 at Hiers Construction Company, deputies said.

Williams was taken into custody in Hampton County after investigators with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office developed enough probable cause to obtain warrants for Williams from a Colleton County Magistrate.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Williams was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

A bond was set at $160,000. Williams is being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.

"When I took office earlier this year, one of my objectives was to put the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division into a position where several cold cases could be looked into to make sure everything that could have been done on the case was completed.  In this case, I am pleased that investigators were able to develop more leads to the point where an arrest was made. " said Sheriff Strickland.

Deputies said the shooting likely stemmed from an attempted robbery.
