Pair of fires displace families in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A pair of fires in Charleston displaced two families Monday evening as strong storms rolled through the region.

The first fire started in West Ashley around 5:30 p.m. on Cabrill Drive.

The owner of the home did not want to talk about the experience, but did say he and his pregnant wife were able to escape the burning home unharmed.

He went on to say that they had only purchased the home three months earlier. The couple will move in with family members until they figure out what to do.

Fire investigators said Tuesday afternoon that the Cabrill Drive fire was likely caused by a lightning strike.

A second fire broke out at a home on Overseer Place in Mount Pleasant, near the I'On subdivision. While the fire caused some major damage to the home and displaced the family, no on was injured.

Firefighters also did not have a cause of the fire in Mount Pleasant. Officials were still investigating Monday night.
