Trident Literacy Association featured in the Volunteer Phonebank

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - Out of the 400,000 people who live in the tri-county area, as many as 1 in 7 are nearly illiterate.  The Trident Literacy Association is trying to change those statistics and help those who can't read and/or write learn how.

TLA is a nonprofit organization that provides lessons in reading, writing, mathematics, English as a Second Language, GED Preparation, and computer use. The lessons are taught to more than 1,800 people, who are 17 or older, annually by volunteers.

Wednesday TLA will be featured on the ABC News 4 Volunteer Four Phonebank.  The organization is looking for more people to volunteer.  From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. you can call to get more information.  The phonebank number is 881-5837.

If you can't call during the phonebank, but still want to help you can always call two other numbers any time of the day. Those numbers are: Dial 2-1-1 or (843) 744-HELP or 1-800-922-2283.
