CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - You might call it a model project.

Charleston's new performing arts center has a price tag of $142 million and on the site now is a two-story mock-up of what the facade will look like.

The model is made with the Midwestern limestone and Quebec granite that will be used in the new building going up in the city's historic district.

The new Gaillard Center is the most expensive building the city of Charleston has ever built.

The center is being built on the site of the old Gaillard Municipal Auditorium and will include a new performance hall, convention ballroom, banquet space, outdoor gardens and city offices.

It will be a key venue for the Spoleto Festival USA.
