Hilton Head man convicted of cocaine trafficking

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Hilton Head man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday for trafficking cocaine and other drug charges.

Jurors convicted 31-year-old Stanley Wright, Jr. of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime after a two-day trial.

According to a released from the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office, sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 in August 2011 that was cut off before all of the caller's information could be collected. Officers swept the home looking for the woman and found 222 grams of cocaine, 5 ounces of marijuana, a loaded handgun, and nearly $2,500 in cash.

During the trial, experts testified that the cocaine's street value was approximately $8,000.

"Our community is sick and tired of cocaine and its derivatives flooding our streets, poisoning our youth and fueling property crime and violence," said assistant solicitor Ben Shelton of the Beaufort County Career Criminal Prosecution Unit. "This verdict and sentence speak volumes to this fact. The Sheriff's Office's professional response helped ensure that this dealer will be behind bars for a long, long time."

Wright has prior convictions for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of marijuana, the solicitor's office said.
