WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two contract road workers at a project in West Ashley were hit by a drunken driver Friday afternoon, according to transportation officials.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation spokesman James Law, a pair of contractors working on a Charleston County road project were hit by a drunk driver. The men were working on the red light at Bees Ferry Road and Glenn McConnell Parkway, Law said.

Charleston police identified the driver as Harry Brabham. He was charged with driving under the influence, police said.

The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m.

The two contractors were taken to a nearby hospital, but police officials did not comment on their conditions.
