SC flap over transit authority rep at airport

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Taxi drivers in Myrtle Beach might call it as a moving violation.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports there's a flap over the Coast Rural Transit Authority representative in the airport. Local cab drivers say that violates the airport's no-solicitation policy and costs them business.

The airport says the ambassador is there to greet people after they gather their luggage.

But the transit authority says they are not allowed to approach people. They simply answer questions when they are approached about the authority's routes which provide service to the area convention center and hotels along Ocean Boulevard.

Cab drivers are not allowed to go inside the airport to solicit customers.

The transit authority began the new airport service in June.
