Oakhurst Firefighter Injured After Mishap with Brakes

Posted: Updated:

One Green Country firefighter was injured Friday afternoon while attempting to respond to a fire in a Sapulpa neighborhood.

An official with the Oakhurst Fire Department told KTUL that it happened Friday afternoon while responding to a car on fire in Sapulpa. This was in the 4100 block of West 61st Street.

Sapulpa Fire Department, Kellyville Fire Department and Oakhurst were called to the scene. While en route to the fire, Oakhurst's fire truck's brakes failed causing the truck to crash through a fence and onto I-44.

Dale Haney with OFD told KTUL that the firefighter driving the truck, identified as Michael Blancett, broke his ankle and received head, neck and back injuries during the accident. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

In addition to Blancett being injured, OFD is now without a fire truck. A regularly scheduled fundraiser will be held this week to raise money for a new one.

Those interested can come out to the OFD station at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the live pro-wrestling match.
