CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Social media is helping to bring together employees who lost their jobs in the Front Street fire with those who want to put them back to work as soon as possible.

"I've seen hundreds of pictures. I've seen videos posted on the Internet. I thought I was mentally prepared for this, but when I got here -- this is my town this is where I grew up," said Trevor Steel, a small business owner.

Steel says the damage on Front Street in Georgetown is worse than he expected. He says after seeing the devastation he knows his plan to help people has to be successful.

"It crossed my mind that we could use social media to put people together basically, for the employees that lost there jobs that have no where to go this will just give them a place to go and maybe be in touch with small business owners," said Steel.

Steel, a member of the Pawley's Island Rotary Club, is joining with other members and posting job listings on the Front Street Unemployment Relief Facebook page.

"We're not trying to steal a labor force from these guys because I know they want to rebuild and be up and running soon. We're just trying to give them something to do in the mean time," said Steel.

The page is open to the public and already had announced 15 job openings Friday afternoon.
