Gas prices continue to drop across SC

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- Gas prices are continuing to drop across the state and the country, according to gas price tracking website

According to the most recent data from the website, prices in South Carolina dropped another 3.7 cents over the last week to an average price of $3.07 per gallon. Nationally, prices fell 5.4 cents to an average of $3.43 per gallon.

"Gasoline prices continue to erode with 12 states that are seeing prices under $3 per gallon, and more states will join in on that over the next seven days," said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

Including the most recent price change, gas prices in the Palmetto State are 41.5 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and 19.1 cents lower than one month ago.

The national averages are 36.3 cents lower that a year ago and 18.8 cents lower than one month ago.

"While it's generally good news that gasoline prices continue falling, many Americans don't believe we're likely to see national averages drop under $3 per gallon over the next year at the pump," DeHaan said.

According to a GasBuddy survey of 10,000 drivers, two-thirds said the national average will remain between $3 and $4 through 2014.

Twenty percent of people said they thought gas prices would drop below $3 per gallon, but another 13 percent said they thought prices would go back up over $4 per gallon.
