COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's top prosecutor is again hosting a somber ceremony to honor residents who were killed as a result of domestic violence.

Attorney General Alan Wilson is scheduled to hold the Silent Witness Domestic Violence ceremony at the Statehouse in Columbia on Tuesday.

As he does each year, Wilson plans to call the names of each man and woman killed by domestic violence in 2012. This is the event's 16th year and also features life-size silhouettes representing each victim. A bell also rings once for each person.

October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Last week, a report released by the Violence Policy Center in Washington showed that South Carolina ranks first in the country in the rate of women killed by men.
