Boots and Badges: Saving lives never looked so good

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's your chance to save lives and possibly win a thousand dollar gift card all at the same time.

The ABC News 4 Boots and Badges Blood Drive is Thursday October 3. The blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Northwoods and Citadel malls.

"Boots and Badges is a fun theme to show support for our first responders in the community," said Laura Zagby Dye from the Lowcountry chapter of the Red Cross.

When you come out to donate, you'll get a chance to vote for your favorite group of heroes, firefighters or police officers.

Those who donate will also be eligible for a $1,000 Visa gift card. It's part of the Red Cross's "Saving Lives Never Looked So Good" campaign.

While organizers suggest using the card for shopping or spa services, a Visa gift card can be used anywhere Visa credit cards are accepted including gas stations, grocery stores and financial institutions.

Refreshments will be provided by Dunkin Donuts. Everyone who comes out to donate will also get a free ticket to the North Charleston Fire Museum.

It's not just the goodies that donors walk away with, but the great feeling that comes with helping a great cause. Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives.

"Blood products have a shelf life," said Dye. "So we always need people to come out and give blood year-round."
