Destination Disney: Young transplant patient represents SC

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) –-  The Princess is off to the land of the princesses. Beaufort's Morgan Porter and her family flew out of Charleston International Airport Tuesday morning.

Morgan and her family will represent the State of South Carolina at the Children's Miracle Network annual conference held at Disney World in Orlando.

After spending four days at "the happiest place on Earth," the Porters will fly to Washington, D.C., in hopes of meeting the president.

We first met Morgan in January of 2012. The then-3-year-old was tip-toeing around the Children's Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Morgan became just the third child at MUSC Children's Hospital to ever receive the Berlin Heart. The device pumped blood through her tiny body after her heart was attacked by disease. Six months after the Berlin Heart was attached to Morgan, a donor was found.

On Jan. 25 of last year, Morgan underwent a heart transplant surgery. The surgery lasted the better part of 12 hours.

Much like the little girl we met then and the little girl we saw tip-toeing through the airport this morning, Morgan Porter was amazed. She is healthy, vibrant and is as cute as the day is long.

Her next four days will be a dream come true for the little girl who once decorated her hospital rooms with princesses.
