Fuel removed from sunken vessel in Shem Creek

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A vessel that sank in Shem Creek near Geechie Seafood Thursday morning is floating again and all the fuel is out, said officials with the  United States Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard contracted the removal of fuel and hazardous substances from the 45-foot vessel when the owner couldn't salvage it, officials said.

Officials said they asked the owner to make permanent repairs or have it removed from the water.
