NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Hundreds of veterans will be honored at the annual Veterans Day ceremony in North Charleston.

The city has, for the third time, been selected by the Department of Defense and the Veterans Day National Committee as one of two regional sites for 2013 Veterans Day ceremonies.

The annual event is being held Monday at Park Circle in the city. Hundreds of veterans will receive recognition from Mayor Keith Summey and members of North Charleston City Council.

Last year at the event, more than 500 veterans were honored.

Before the ceremony, there will be a story swap at the Felix Davis Community Center where veterans will have a chance to share memories about their service. Veterans wishing to speak should RSVP to (843) 740-5850.

All veterans in attendance who register in advance will also be recognized and receive a commemorative coin.

Veterans are urged to RSVP no later than November 4 to (843) 740-5801, (843) 745-1028 or via email at cdambaugh@northcharleston.org.

Colonel Myron C. Harrington, Jr. USMC (Retired) will be the keynote speaker. He's a Citadel graduate who served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions at the Battle of Huế. He's also been awarded the Silver Star, Legion of Merit with two Gold Stars, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" and Gold Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, and the Vietnamese Staff Honor Medal 1st Class.

Harrington is currently the Headmaster of Trident Academy in Mount Pleasant and sits on the Board of Visitors at The Citadel.

Lunch will be available after the ceremony.
