Posted: Updated:

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A former Horry County teacher has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of sending suggestive text messages to a student.

Twenty-six-year-old Shane Allen Watson of Surfside Beach pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Watson was a ninth grade teacher at the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology when the incident occurred last October.

Police said Watson sent a 13-year-old boy in his class text messages that were sexually suggestive.
