ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. (AP) - A 21-year-old St. Matthews man is facing charges in a wreck that killed one of his passengers and left another paralyzed.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports that Frank Clinton Hair was charged Monday with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury.

Authorities say Hair had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he lost control of his vehicle just before 8 p.m. July 4, ran off the road and struck a ditch and a tree.

Twenty-four-year-old Robert H. Thompson was killed. Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Dukes was paralyzed.

Hair faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
