GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) -- Between painting, building and ordering, Peter Scalise has been working nonstop to get his restaurant open in time for Georgetown's historic Wooden Boat Show.

"We did this all because we wanted to show resiliency," he said. "Get back on the horse. Georgetown is growing and getting stronger."

His restaurant Zest burned down in the Front Street fire, along with Jeanette Ard's Colonial Florist business and Ginger Gray's Doodlebugs children's boutique.

They've all relocated and managed to stay right next to each other on the 900 block of Front Street.

"I think it'll be a great renewal for Front Street," said Gray, whose children's boutique had spent 11 years in its former location.

When the fire first happened, some said the wooden boat show would be canceled. But the business community knew how important the event was to Georgetown, especially now.

"It's going to capture 20,000 people in town that will only come once a year. Well, we want them next year," Scalise said.

"I felt confident they'd pull it off. I'm happy it's happening," said Ard, who shared her new and old Colonial Florist locations with her granddaughter's retail store.

But while Scalise and Ard had open storefronts ready, Gray did not.

"We wanted to get everything in and be open but it just wasn't possible," she said.

Still, she would be there for support. And though Scalise was once again the new kid on the block, he said the community helped him work through the last three weeks.

The Wooden Boat Show starts Saturday at 10 a.m.
