MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Merchants in Myrtle Beach are not afraid the summer tourist season is over. Instead, they are trying to scare visitors.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the city's Downtown Merchants Association is working to capitalize on the growing popularity of Halloween. Through Nov. 1, the group is staging Friday Night Fright Nights where visitors may encounter zombies and other scary creatures wandering the downtown business district.

The Fright Nights also feature haunted tours at Ripley's Haunted Adventure and Nightmare Haunted House for a special combined price.

On Saturday nights through Nov. 2, there are free live concerts at waterfront Plyler Park.
