Drug Take-Back Day works to prevent pill abuse, theft

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- To prevent pill abuse and theft, places around the Lowcountry are participating in Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Saturday, people will be able to bring their expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to participating locations for disposal.

In April, Americans turned in more than 742,000 pounds of prescription drugs at 5,800 sites. The initiative is operated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement partners.

Lowcountry law enforcement partners will be at the locations listed below on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Charleston: Charleston Police Headquarters, 180 Lockwood Boulevard
Charleston: Citadel Mall in the parking lot near the CARTA Park-N-Ride, 2060 Sam Rittenburg Boulevard
Georgetown: Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, 430 N. Fraser Street
Johns Island: Vincent Drug Store, 110 Planted Row Lane
North Charleston: Charleston COunty Sheriff's Office, 3505 Pinehaven Drive
North Charleston: North Charleston City Hall, 2500 City Hall Lane
North Charleston: Ashley River Fire Department, 8045 Dorchester Road
Mount Pleasant: Mount Pleasant Police Department, 100 Ann Edwards Lane
Pawleys Island: Midway Fire Rescue Headquarters, 67 St. Paul's Place
Saint George: Dorchester County Courthouse, 5200 Bilton Boulevard  
Summerville: Summerville Police Department, 300 West 2nd North Street
Summerville: Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, 212 Deming Way
