Monday's incident began when a woman was checking on her elderly mother in the 4700 block of North Cincinnati Place when she was confronted by a man who appeared to be around 19-years-old, Officer Leland Ashley said.

The man had a gun and forced the woman into her car and told her to drive to her home near East Pine Street and North Peoria Avenue.

She entered the home and hit the panic button on her alarm.

The man took money and jewelry. He had the woman at gunpoint in her garage. Police said the woman's husband had phoned a neighbor asking to check on her. The alarm also alerted the neighbor.

Police said the neighbor saw the suspect holding the victim at gunpoint in the garage. The suspect robbed the neighbor then forced the woman back into her car. The neighbor followed behind them in another vehicle.

The suspect eventually stopped and fled on foot near 46th Street North and Peoria Avenue.
