6 people found dead in SC domestic dispute

Posted: Updated:

GREENWOOD, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police are investigating the deaths of six people in the upstate in what's being called a murder-suicide.

It happened in Greenwood County, an area between Greenville and Columbia.

Greenwood County Sheriff's Office spokesman John Long says late Tuesday that the six found dead include four adults and two children. He said the bodies were discovered by a SWAT team that entered the house "after several unsuccessful attempts to make contact" with someone inside.

Authorities say the suspect in the incident had a history of violence reportedly called the local sheriff's office saying he was feeling "edgy" and was thinking about hurting himself. When officers arrived at the home to investigate they found the victims and suspect dead. Officials say a neighbor called 911 saying children from that address had arrived at her house and told her a shot had been fired.

The Sheriff's office confirms all died from gunshot wounds and that the killings were the result of a domestic dispute.

"I'm in my second term, but I've been in law enforcement in Greenwood since 1975 and I've, to my knowledge, this is the first one that I've responded to with this many deceased," said Greenwood County Sheriff Tony Davis.

"It's a situation that just takes your heart. It's sad. It's horrific. You have to feel - your heart just has to go out to every one of the family members, everyone involved."

The identification of the six dead has not yet been released.
