SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Summerville police are looking for a man they say robbed the Shoe Dept. in Azalea Square Thursday. They said he also tried to rob the nearby Target but was interrupted.

According to police reports, officers responded to Target around 2:45 p.m. and met with the victim, a manager of the store.

She told police she was called to the front of the store to meet with an "upset customer" who then led her to the infants section where he pretended to need help finding a shirt.

Instead of shopping, the employee said the man raised his shirt, showed her a black handgun in his waistband and said she needed to take him to the safe. He also reportedly told her that he
had other people in the store with guns that would start shooting people."

The employee said she took the suspect to the back but they were met by a security guard in the hallway. The suspect tried to pretend he was simply filing a complaint but when the security guard told him to follow her to guest services, he ran for the exit.

Security camera footage shows the suspect initially drove in front of Target, parked in the back parking lot near Kohls then left in that same vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing blue jeans, a red Aeropostale t-shirt and black hat. The car is described as a gold two-door Pontiac Sunfire with tinted windows.

Then, around 3:30 p.m., Summerville police were once again called to Azalea Square but this time for a robbery that was successful.

An employee of the Shoe Dept. said a man asked about buying shoes but then demanded all of the money in the store while pointing a black handgun. None of her coworkers realized what was happening but said they did see a black male in the store.

The suspect got away with an undetermined amount of money.

A witness outside the store said he saw one black man sitting in a car with the engine running and another man running from the store.

The "runner" is described as a 5'10" tall black male wearing a dark blue hat and shirt. The witness said he saw a gold Pontiac Sunfire pick up the "runner" near Bojangles. The driver is described as a black man wearing a khaki shirt.

If anyone has any information on these or any other crimes, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or the Summerville POlice at 851-4100.
