GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) – A man was arrested after police say he carried a knife on to the campus of Westview Elementary School.

According to a Goose Creek police report, 22-year-old Jonathan Dutcher, of Summerville, was charged after police tracked him down using surveillance photos taken by school security cameras.

Police say on Oct. 25 a man went to the front office of Westview Elementary ask asked to see a teacher who had retired several years earlier. When the man was told she had retired, he told office personnel: "Oh, I thought she would be here forever."

School officials said the man was very polite when speaking to them. Since the teacher he had asked about was not there, the man turned and left the school.

According to police, a witness saw the man take a large hunting knife out of a pink bookbag he was carrying. The witness notified the office and the office called police.

The report states that officers searched for the man, who was traveling on a bicycle, but did not find him.

However, school officials made plans to contact the retired teacher to see if she recognized the man based on the photos as a former student.

Three schools were placed on temporary lockdown as a result of the incident, police said.
