SC senators and public discuss health care bill

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State senators say they want to hear what the people of South Carolina think about the new federal health care law as they consider a bill that would cancel parts of the legislation.

At a public hearing Wednesday morning in Columbia, about 30 people spoke. Most of them want to see the law completely revoked.

The bill as first written would have nullified the health care law supported by President Barack Obama. It was amended and passed the House last year. The bill now would give tax breaks to people who have to pay a penalty for not having insurance and prevent South Carolina from ever creating a health care exchange.

The first public hearing was Tuesday night in Greenville, and the final hearing is Wednesday night in North Charleston.
