Legare Farms: Second pig killed by hunters on a boat

Posted: Updated:

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A second pig has been shot and killed by men on a boat, according to a post on Legare Farms' Facebook page.

The post calls for help from the page's followers and offers an unnamed reward.

"We had another pig shot and killed today, but this time they came onto our property and removed the pig. Please be on the lookout for a white boat about 16 feet long. It is a bowrider and has Key West written down the side. It had a green canoe in the boat," the post reads.

It goes on to describe the shooter as a man with blonde hair.

"How dare you shoot a high powered rifle near my house and put my life in danger," said Helen Legare-Floyd, who helps run the family farm. "I jumped up and ran and put my shoes on and was running down the steps when I heard a third high-powered rifle."

Legare-Floyd said the man showed up around 2 p.m. She said she and her husband were home at the time and watched the man kill the pig.

The hunter reportedly shot the pig three times with a high-powered rifle then got out of the boat to pull it aboard. The pig was on the Farms' property.

"We have got to put a stop to this reckless behavior," the post read.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Natural Resources have been called, Legare-Floyd said.

This marks the second time a pig has been poached at Legare Farms in six months.

She fears if this continues to happen, the next time it could be a person that gets hurt instead of one of her farm animals.

"My husband and I were both at home today. It could be our pet. It could be one of us that gets shot," she said. "You've got to be a really irresponsible human being to shoot a gun that close to somebody's house."
