MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Fresh off her election night win, Linda Page spent her first day as Mount Pleasant's mayor-elect taking it all in.

"I have a lot of thank you notes to write," said Page. "I'll be writing thank yous all weekend."

She has plenty of people to thank. Page avoided a run off race by getting 57 percent of the vote. That's not an easy feat in a five-person race.

"I think I'm a hands on person. I think I like to relate to the people as well as well as the issues," she said.

Linda Page is also very well known. She runs a family-owned antique shop on Ben Sawyer Boulevard many folks call Page's Thieves.

As a businesswoman, she benefits from the community's rapid growth. But she's also grown up in Mount Pleasant and values the town's character and charm. She knows as mayor, growth is a huge issue.

"I will be open to the future, but I will respect the past and I will respect the people who live here, and at all costs I will protect our quality of life," she said.

Page says she spent the first day as mayor-elect meeting with the media and with current mayor Billy Swails. She says her first order of business will be getting to know new council members and appointing committees.

"You have to kind of figure out where everyone wants to serve and what committees they would be best served on," Page said.

Linda Page will be officially sworn in Tuesday, Nov. 12 during the town council meeting.
