Bracket breakdown for Class 1A football playoffs

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Everything in the 2013 high school football season now comes down to filling in blank lines on a bracket.

Last Friday night, teams in Class 1A, 2A, 3A and SCISA kicked off their playoff schedules while 4A schools will begin their playoff runs this week. Here is how the teams are paired in Class 1A for the second week.

Class 1A, Division 1 games:

In the upper state Division 1 bracket, Lamar is coming off a 53-6 rout of Southside Christian to face St. Joseph's Catholic. St. Joseph's beat Ware Shoals 28-14 last week. Lamar racked up a 9-2 season this year, losing only to Hartsville and Darlington in September. St. Joseph's put together a 10-1 season. Their only loss came on Oct. 25 against Christ Church, 52-22.

Williston-Elko faces Christ Church this week. Williston-Elko beat Johnson 58-6 last week while Christ Church continued their dominating roll through the season, beating Lewisville, 66-0. They have only allowed 81 points in 11 games, but are averaging nearly 56 points per game. Williston put together a 9-2 season this year, only losing to Edisto and Chesterfield in the first two games of the season, so there are two long win streaks on the line this Friday.

After winning 48-20 over Baptist Hill, Carvers Bay moved on to play Estill this week. Estill is coming off a 26-7 win over Johnsonville. Carvers Bay only loss this year came Sept. 13 against Andrews while Estill has two losses to their record, Wade Hampton and Allendale-Fairfax.

And in the final game of the division, Hemingway takes on Allendale-Fairfax. Hemingway is coming off a 27-12 win over St. John's in the first round and a 9-1 season. Their loss came against Carvers bay. Allendale-Fairfax beat Latta last week and is riding a four-game win streak to close out the regular season.

Class 1A, Division 2 games:

Hunter-Kinard-Tyler beat Blackville-Hilda 22-14 last week to move into their game against McCormick on Friday. McCormick is coming off a 20-0 shutout of Dixie. The Trojans are sitting on a 9-2 record and closed out the season with a four-win streak. McCormick fought through a 5-6 record this year, a season that showed they could put big points on the board – and they could allow a lot of points, too. They allowed 330 points in their 11-game season.

Last week, Ridge Spring-Monetta put together a 34-13 win over Wagener-Salley while Great Falls pulled off a 29-22 win against McBee to put the two winners through to the second round. Both teams have 6-5 records on the season with similar points for and against statistics. This could be one of the most evenly matched games in the division.

Last week, Cross blanked Lincoln, 69-0 and Timmonsville beat up on Branchville, 58-6, setting up the possibility of a high-scoring game in the second round. Cross comes in at 6-5 and Timmonsville is 5-6, but Timmonsville is much stingier on defense, only allowing 18 points per game to Cross' 22.5.

And in the final game of the 1A division, Military Magnet (5-6) takes on Lake View. The North Charleston school is coming off a 38-12 win over Creek Bridge last week, turning around four losses in six weeks to finish the regular season. Lake View is also 5-6 and has four wins in the last six weeks, including a 30-12 win over Military Magnet.
