CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Ten Head Start programs in the Charleston County School District received computer centers after a gift from IBM.

The Young Explorer computers are housed in brightly colored Little Tikes furniture and have educational software to help students learn and explore concepts in math, science and language.

The company also provided funding to install the computers and provide staff training.

"The Young Explorer station is extremely useful and I use it often," said Ms. Carpenter, a Head Start teacher at Chicora Elementary School.

The programs that received the computers are CC Blaney, Thomas Myers II, West Ashley Head Start Center, Child and Family Development Center, Midland Park, St. James-Santee, Minnie Hughes, Burns, Chicora and Goodwin.

According to a press release, IBM's Young Explorer has been shown to improve teaching and learning.

The computers are the centerpiece of IBM's KidStart Early Learning grant program.
