Tornado Watch issued for Lowcountry until 1 a.m.

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP/WCIV) - Several Lowcountry counties are under a Tornado Watch until 1 a.m. Wednesday as a storm system moves east through the area.

A sloppy storm system carrying heavy rainfall, ice and snow is slogging its way eastward, bringing the potential of headaches for travelers heading home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

National Weather Service spokesman Chris Vaccaro says the timing couldn't be worse as the storm dumps rain on parts of the southeast and brings the risk of snow and ice to the Appalachians, western Pennsylvania and western New York.

The storm system, already blamed for at least 11 deaths, could also spawn an isolated tornado in the Florida Panhandle.

Vaccaro says air travel will likely be disrupted Tuesday and Wednesday, with wet and windy weather predicted for many major airports in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The storm system is expected to move out by Thanksgiving Day.
