DNR goes digital with fishing, hunting licenses

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said Thursday that it was expanding the DNR Online Customer Service Portal to make it easier to apply for licenses, registrations, and permits.

According to DNR, there are 135,000 online transactions for permits and licenses annually along with more than 500,000 point-of-sale transactions made throughout the state. In all, the natural resources department handles 1.4 million license transactions each year, officials said.

DNR officials said Thursday that all of the payments would now be filtered through the new portal and the state's secure payment system.

"With more and more of our hunters and anglers adopting new technologies like smart phones and tablets, it only made sense to give them a system that is convenient, easy-to-use, and fits their outdoor lifestyle," said Don Winslow, Deputy Director of Outreach and Support Services with the SC Department of Natural Resources.

Officials said the upgrade renders the registration site based on how the user is viewing it – on a desktop or laptop, a tablet, or a mobile phone.

"This is part of DNR's continued efforts to transform how we can serve our customers more efficiently and effectively, by providing our state's hunters and anglers with additional features and functionality through the convenient and secure DNR Online Customer Service Portal."
