MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Bullets were found lodged inside of a vehicle after the driver was arrested on drug charges, said officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Officials said officers responded to a call regarding shots fired in the area of Mathis Ferry Road Thursday at about 8 p.m.

Officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description of one involved in the incident on I-26 West past the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, according to the police report.

The driver, Rico Antwan Ferguson, 28, of North Charleston, and a passenger were detained for investigative purposes and officers found an empty shell casing in the driver's side floorboard, the report states.

According to the report, Ferguson began to sweat and started to look sick and when an officer asked if he had ingested drugs, he said, "Yes."

Ferguson spit out a green plant-like material and then vomited, the report states.

He was arrested for simple possession of marijuana.

The passenger told officers he had known Ferguson for most of his life and that he had been picked up at a gas station a few minutes before, the report states.

He told officers another vehicle fired shots at Ferguson's vehicle while he was driving on Mathis Ferry Road, according to the report.

According to the report, officers found two fresh bullet holes on the left and right sides of the trunk of the car Ferguson was driving.

One bullet was lodged in the left side of the rear tail lights and the other went through the trunk lid and into the trunk, the report states.

According to the report, a fired bullet was found in the trunk compartment.
