COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Mr. Football award will stay in Goose Creek for another year. Stratford's Jacob Park was named this year's award winner at the All Star Game Awards.

Park said he was "shocked" to learn he had won the award after losing the title game to Northwestern, led by Oklahoma State-bound Mason Rudolph.

Park led the Knights to a 12-3 year that went to the state title game against Northwestern where they fell short of picking up the school's second title.

Park said in the days leading up to the game that he and his teammates had been hoping for a return to the state final since their freshman year. The school last appeared in a title game in 2004, losing 21-7 to Rock Hill.

The Knights last won a state title in 1999.

Park was instrumental in the Knights' wins and often dazzled fans with quick footwork, a strong arm that could throw long, accurate bombs, and an athleticism that sent him over the heads of tackles.

Park is also a titan off the field. He graduates later this month and will play in the All-American game in January before taking his place on the campus at the University of Georgia, where he will be on the sidelines with the Bulldogs.

Goose Creek's Tramel Terry won the award last year coming off the Gators' perfect season that didn't make it into the playoffs after a decision to disqualify the team by the South Carolina High School Association.

Mr. Football is often a sign of things to come for players looking to advance to top-tier college play and the NFL. Previous winners include South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney, Marcus Lattimore, and Stephon Gilmore.

The last Knight to win the award was Moe Thompson in 2001.
