GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — One Pawleys Island mom says a real life Grinch stole a part of her little girl's Christmas this year.

Lori Turner says someone recently took an expensive package from her front porch on Russell Drive. The package was to be a surprise gift for her 11-year-old daughter, Kelsey.

She believes the thief mistook what was actually in the package for a computer monitor or a flat screen television.

Days after it was stolen she has yet to break the news to her little girl, but one less Christmas present now sits under the tree.

"We had put so much time an effort into this," she said.

Turner says she had plans to make this holiday season extra special for her daughter.

"She has a love for art, painting. And she also has developed a love for dragons," she said.

So three months ago, she had a friend in Tennessee combine the two and paint a special portrait featuring her daughter riding a dragon through the sky.

"He had sent us progress pictures as he went along with the paintings, so that she could have something to look at later," she said. "I knew it was going to arrive on Tuesday."

THat's what she thought, but when it didn't arrive she called UPS.

"They got in touch with the driver immediately. It had been delivered to our house. It was our regular driver," she said. "Our neighbors, it turned out, had actually seen it delivered, but by the time I got home 20 minutes later it was missing."

The Pawleys Island mom says as she drove home that day, she noticed two large trucks quickly exiting her street, driving in the wrong lanes.

"They're going to get it home and realize it's a painting of our daughter and they're not going to want it," she said. "This is a time for loving and giving and kindness. You hear about the other people are paying off other people's layaways and you think of all the wonderfulness that's supposed to be going on in the world and then to find a Grinch -- very disappointing."

With Christmas just around the corner, Turner hopes whoever took the painting will do the right thing.

"I'll offer a reward for this -- no questions asked. Just bring it back to this little girl," she said.

If you have any information on this case, you're urged to call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102.
