BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A firefighter with the North Charleston Fire Department was injured in an off-duty incident Saturday night, said officials with the department.

Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said one man was cleaning a weapon when it discharged and went through his hand and then struck his brother in the leg.

Deputies responded to 315 Cohen Circle at about 7 p.m.

The victim was taken to the hospital and had surgery because the bullet hit an artery.

Officials did not release any names and said they do not suspect foul play.
