WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three women were arrested and charged with shoplifting from a Walmart in West Ashley on Sunday.

According to Charleston police, the store's loss prevention officer watched the three women walk into the store, fill a cart and then leave without paying.

Police identified the women as 41-year-old Sara Denise Montjoy, 21-year-old Kristen Gail Avant, and 18-year-old Taylor Victoria Sanders. Montjoy is Avant's mother, police said.

The report states the loss prevention officer tried to stop the three women, but two of the women attacked him, hitting him repeatedly in the back of the head. One of the women tried to flee towards a nearby tree line, but she was later tracked down by a K-9 unit, police said.

The report states that there were several items in the back of the threesome's SUV that may have also been stolen.

During questioning, the women admitted that they were from Walterboro and traveling to different Walmart stores to shoplift. They reportedly started in Summerville and moved to West Ashley.

The women tried to escape with nearly $1,000 in merchandise from the West Ashley store. The items stolen from Summerville totaled $745.

Montjoy was charged with property crime enhancement and simple assault.

Sanders initially told police she was four months pregnant and gave a fake name. She was charged with simple assault, shoplifting and giving false information. Avant was charged with shoplifting.

All three are being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
