MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - At the Veteran's Cafe and Grille in Myrtle Beach, veterans encounter the holiday spirit of goodwill throughout the year.

The cafe in a nondescript shopping center off busy U.S. 17 is a combination diner, museum and hangout for those who have served America. And if a veteran can't afford a meal, well, they eat for free.

It's been just over four years that Lou Mascherino (MASH-sure-ee-no) and his wife Rhonda have operated the cafe. And it's become a place where patrons can glimpse a bit of military history.

What started as a suggestion on the menu that people bring in pictures of their relatives in the military has snowballed. Now the walls and ceiling of the restaurant are lined with hundreds of items including photos, military patches, flags and uniforms.
