BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Beaufort County deputies are investigating a pair of Christmas Day shootings. Officials say the incidents are not related.
According to the sheriff's office, the first shooting happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Spann Circle in the Sheldon Community. Officials say a 22-year-old man showed up at the Sheldon Fire Department after being shot in the rear.
The man said he had been at a party when a black man he did not know starting firing his handgun, deputies said. Witnesses described the man as 6 feet tall and 170 pounds with dread locks and a beard.
The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officers found $7,000 worth of damage to four cars that had been hit by the gunfire.
While deputies were investigating the Spann Circle shooting, they received reports of another shooting on Keans Neck Road. That shooting happened around 2 a.m., deputies said.
Much like the first shooting, the victim, a 24-year-old woman, showed up at the Shelton Fire Department with a gunshot wound to her lower back.
Witnesses told deputies that a black man in a brown truck fired several shots at a vehicle the victim and several friends were traveling in. The woman was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and then to Medical University Hospital in Charleston.
